Lightwaves Salford – the much-loved annual light festival presented by Quays Culture – will return this December for its 12th year, bringing a vibrant trail of 12 illuminated artworks to Salford Quays and MediaCity.
The free outdoor event runs from Thursday 4 December to Sunday 7 December 2025, with installations lighting up the waterfront each evening from 4pm to 10pm. No tickets are needed — just wrap up warm and wander.
Taking over the quayside after dark, Lightwaves Salford invites visitors of all ages to discover a series of playful, thought-provoking and visually striking light pieces. Spread across Salford Quays and MediaCity, the trail includes interactive works that use light, sound and digital technology to encourage people to dance, play, connect and explore.
This year’s line-up spans a wide mix of themes — from the nostalgia of classic seaside arcades to installations drawing attention to climate change and our relationship with the natural world. Each artwork has been created to spark curiosity and conversation, while offering a sense of joy, optimism and togetherness during the winter season.
