Horizon of Khufu: Journey to Ancient Egypt, an immersive virtual reality expedition set over 4,500 years ago, officially launched in Manchester on 2 April.
This award-winning VR experience, created by Excurio and presented by Fever, offers a standout new addition to the city’s cultural scene.
Providing a unique day-out experience, it gives visitors the rare opportunity to explore the mysteries of the Great Pyramid from within.
Developed in partnership with Professor Peter Der Manuelian and his team at Harvard University’s Giza Project, the experience is grounded in exceptional historical accuracy, ensuring every detail of the Giza necropolis is faithfully recreated.
A Journey Through the Golden Age

Using state-of-the-art VR headsets and full-room motion tracking, guests are transported to the Giza Plateau to witness the construction and grandeur of the Great Pyramid.
Guided by a virtual Egyptologist, visitors can explore rarely seen royal chambers, uncover ancient rituals, and learn about the workers, architects, and priests who shaped the legacy of Ancient Egypt.
The experience features several breathtaking highlights, such as an exploration of the Giza Plateau where guests walk among the Great Sphinx and temples as they appeared four millennia ago.
Visitors also enter the King’s Chamber and hidden corridors inside the Great Pyramid, which have been recreated in virtual detail.
The journey continues with a Pharaoh’s funeral procession, allowing guests to join the ceremonial journey honouring Pharaoh Khufu, complete with lifelike animation and sound, before concluding with an aerial flight over Giza for a panoramic view of the ancient capital.
The 45-minute multisensory experience has already captivated audiences across Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Alex Winterbotham, Global Director of Production for VR at Fever, said:
“We are thrilled to debut Horizon of Khufu in the UK, following its tremendous success with audiences globally, from Lisbon to Denver. Manchester, such a hub of innovation, is the perfect city for this launch.
“This virtual reality adventure offers curious minds a unique and accessible opportunity to explore the pyramids and experience Ancient Egyptian society in a way that has never been possible before.”
Fabien Barati and Emmanuel Guerriero, founders of Excurio, added:
“Launching Horizon of Khufu after several months of work with Professor Der Manuelian is an honour for us and is more than just symbolic: it confirms the scientific rigour we aim to bring to our content, offering a new generation of family and friends outings that blend entertainment and culture.”
A New VR Destination

With the arrival of Horizon of Khufu at Transmission House on Tib Street, Manchester is becoming a premier destination for high-end virtual reality.
Alongside the Egyptian expedition, visitors can also experience Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City, allowing them to explore iconic global landmarks without leaving the city.
This latest addition reflects a wider mission to democratise access to the world’s most extraordinary places through immersive storytelling and cutting-edge technology.
Tickets are available exclusively through the Fever app and website for this standing experience, which is recommended for ages 10 and above.
